Where is Shangrila Resort located?

Shangrila Lake or Lower Kachura Lake is a part of the Shangrila resort located on a drive of about 30 minutes from Skardu city in Gilgit-Baltistan, formerly known as Northern Areas of Pakistan.
It is a popular tourist destination and has a unique restaurant that is built on the fuselage of an aircraft that had crashed nearby in 1954.



The inspiring story of Shangrila

Shangrila was named by an English novelist, James Hilton in his best-seller book "The Lost Horizon" which was later turned into a movie with the same name. The landscape around was so alluring that a commander of Pakstan army who had served in the region came up with the idea to turn the location into a resort. The resort was built in 1983, since then it has been one of the most visited tourist destinations in Pakistan. The resort has a heart-shaped lake in the center and number of lavishly designed hotels and motels around the lake.

If you are lucky enough to visit Skardu, don't miss the opportunity to visit this heavenly piece of earth. There are many things you can do in and around the resort:

  1. You can take a full sight of Skardu city in a single glance from here.  On two sides there are beautiful snowcapped mountains, and on the eastern side is the Skardu city. The Indus River, Pakistan's largest river, and Skardu-Gilgit link road pass by side. 
  2. You can enjoy verities of indigenous fruits in the summer season.
  3. You can enjoy fishing in the nearby Upper Kachura lake which is half hour walk from this resort
  4. You can roam around in the wood which has a variety of trees, bushes, huts, larges tones and a hotel built on a fuselage of a plane. 

How to reach there?

First, you need to reach Skardu city of Pakistan. For reaching Skardu you can choose by air journey or by road. The Skardu airport is also located at a distance of 20 minutes drive from the resort and the main market area of the city is a drive of about half an hour.
